Live Streaming Tips! (Twitch)

October 13TH, 2024

There are so many ways to stream these days, but there are always ways to improve and make it better. With my eight years of streaming, I always strive to improve, even a little. The 1% improvements add up in the long run. Still, before you get to that point, there are some standard things all streamers should know. It’s a sort of “Streamer 101” type of knowledge.

You might be asking yourself, why should I take his advice on “Streaming for Dummies?” The results speak for themselves. I’ve found success streaming and have eight years of experience. There aren’t that many of us out there that can say that. Take my word for it.

Tip #1-
Please… Please… Please. Have a mic. This isn’t TikTok, where you can be Khaby Lame and just make faces and hand motions. Live streaming is for entertaining and engaging an audience. How do you expect to do that if you don’t have a microphone to communicate? It can be part of your headset or a dedicated one. Just let us hear you.

Tip #2-
With that last tip… TALK. Yes, it sounds silly, but it’s important. Talk even if no one is watching. You should build the habit of talking regardless of whether anyone is watching, whether there are zero people, 20, 100, or 1 million. You should always act as if someone is watching. Because if you don’t talk, how will we get to know who you are? What makes you different? What separates you from us just watching someone play a video game like anyone else? Play with friends to build that habit of talking while playing games. Try to find ways to be comfortable constantly talking.

Tip #3-
There is no one right way to stream. Multiple things will work for one person that may not work for you. Experiment. Try different things. Don’t compare yourself to someone else if it hinders your ability to grow and deteriorates your mental. Focus on you and your content. That’s what matters.

Tip #4-
Don’t waste your money on the best equipment, the best PC, the best peripherals, and the most expensive unnecessary things. Start streaming on whatever you have because you need to know if you even like it. Contrary to popular belief, streaming is not for anyone. So don’t buy a $3,000 microphone you may not use later. Try it out first before you start investing in upgrades.

Tip #5-
Define your purpose. Define what you want out of streaming. Fame? Community? Friends? Fun? Money? Defining your purpose will lay out the foundation and direction you will take when you start streaming. It’ll dictate your ups and downs, your wins and defeats. Streaming without purpose is like watching the paint dry. It’s a waste of time.

Tip #6-
If you’re not having fun or you are stressing out about streaming. Stop. There is no one forcing you to do this. Don’t destroy your mental health by chasing something that is killing you.

Tip #7-
Don’t take everything everyone says to heart. Don’t listen to everyone. Be your own person and make your own decisions. In other words, take these tips if they resonate with you or don’t. It's your choice!

More tips to come :)
